There’s been talk for years about pushing last call past 2 a.m. in California, and it always kind of felt like one of those ideas that just keeps getting brought up and never actually happens…like getting rid of daylight saving time.
But now there’s a new bill being proposed that would let certain cities create designated “hospitality zones” where bars and restaurants could stay open later...potentially until 4 a.m.
It’s not a done deal yet, but it feels like we might finally be inching closer to something actually changing.
The idea is that instead of making it statewide, cities like Los Angeles could choose specific nightlife areas to test it out, especially as part of efforts to boost the nightlife in LA in general.
Cities like Downtown, Koreatown and Hollywood could see these “hospitality zones” as early as June 1st of this year! That’s just over 2 months from now!
So basically… same conversation we’ve been hearing for years, but this time there’s a more concrete plan and timeline behind it, which makes it feel a little more real than before.
