The Winter Olympics are in full swing on NBC and Peacock…but it’s the male ski jumpers that are making headlines for “Crotchgate.”
Basically, the World Anti-Doping Agency is looking into claims that male ski jumpers are injecting hyaluronic acid (which is usually a cosmetic filler) into their “manhood” right before they get measured for their suits.
It sounds wild, but there’s actually a bizarre logic to it: because the suits are custom-fitted based on a 3D body scan, having a "larger" measurement in that area allows them to get a slightly bigger suit with more surface area.
That extra fabric acts like a tiny sail, providing more lift, which can apparently add several meters to a jump.
The substance itself isn't a traditional steroid, but the "method" could be considered doping if it's performance-enhancing—and doctors are warning it could also cause some pretty nasty medical issues.
So far, no one has been caught red-handed, but the officials are definitely keeping a very close eye on how everyone’s package is being measured this year!
