Who Inspired Jamie Foxx for 'Just Mercy' Role Will Give You All the Feels

Jamie Foxx and Michal B. Jordan teamed up to tell a powerful true story in their new film Just Mercy.

It tells the tale of lawyer and social justice activist Bryan Stevenson [Jordan] and one of his very first cases defending Walter McMillian [Foxx], who’s been wrongfully accused of murder and incarcerated on death row.

Jamie is being heralded for his performance of Walter, whose story actually reminded Jamie of one of the most influential people in his own life.

"It was close to home because my father was actually placed in jail for $25 worth of illegal substance for seven years," he explains. "It was heartbreaking."

"So I took that DNA of how I felt about my father and placed it into Walter McMillian and people are really receiving this movie so well," he adds. "We just want everybody to see it."

Just Mercy is in theaters everywhere tomorrow.
