A Massachusetts man went to bed listening to music with his Apple AirPods on and woke up accidentally swallowing one.
The New York Post reports that Brad Gauthier is warning other AirPod users about his experience with the rare, but increasingly frequent, medical mishap that sent him to the emergency room.
When Gauthier woke up, he had no idea where his missing AirPod was. He started his day and then when he went to take a sip of water, the liquid wouldn't go down.
His son joked that maybe he swallowed one of his missing earbuds but it seemed to be true with the blockage he felt in his chest.
X-rays show a faint image of the AirPod in Gauthier's chest. Doctors used a long, thin tube to retract the AirPod, which measures about two inches long, and Gauthier left the hospital, having experienced no more than minor discomfort.
So next time you use your earbuds in bed, be careful to take them off before falling asleep!
