Cinco de Mayo (meaning Fifth of May in Spanish) is a holiday celebrated in parts of Mexico and also around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage.
This holiday commemorates the last foreign battle on North American soil, in which the Mexican army defeated the much larger and better-equipped French army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

One of the largest celebrations happens in Downtown Los Angeles on Olvera Street. The celebration, which includes dancing, singing, music, food, and more, is held at Plaza Kiosko.
Another celebration in Downtown Los Angeles, Lucha VaVoom, features live Mexican wrestling, burlesque, comedy, and more. Tickets are on sale for $75.00 a piece and the event takes place at the aptly named Mayan Theatre. The event is 21+.

The Citadel Outlets also hosts a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Event organizers say guests can enjoy hourly 15-minute traditional dances and songs performed by the Ballet Folklorico Las Alazanas from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
