On Monday, baby formula maker Abbott reached an agreement with the U.S. health regulators to open up their largest domestic factory to restart production to help with the ongoing baby formula shortage.
Once Abbott resumes production, it will take about six to eight weeks before new baby formula product can hit the shelves. Earlier this year the company had to halt production and recall product due to the FDA investigating four bacterial infections among infants who consumed the formula. Two of those babies ended up dying due to the contamination.
Abbott is one of four companies that produces about 90% of the U.S. formula and their brands account for almost half of the market. Visit ABC 7 for more information and click here to learn about the recall.
