Elon Musk officially owns Twitter now and the company is considering charging users with verified accounts $19.99 a month for a subscription service. If those users don't pay for the service within 90 days, the blue check marks could be taken away.
However, this is not set in stone and the subscription service price could change as well. Also some verified users could be exempt from paying this fee such as international organizations and charities, who are verified on Twitter. It could also be possible that this charge would only apply to the Twitter feature called "Twitter Blue," which currently costs $4.99/month and is available in 4 countries with the U.S. being one of those.
"The whole verification process is being revamped right now," Musktweetedon Sunday. Later that day, Musk engaged with a polltweeted outby Jason Calcanis, a member of the billionaire's inner circle, asking how much they would pay to be verified on the platform. A large majority of responders selected the "wouldn't pay" option.
"Interesting," Musk tweeted in response to the poll.
These are just rumors so they should be taken with a grain of salt and based on the information above, maybe Elon Musk will steer away from charging verified accounts based on people's responses. Head over to ABC 7 for more.
