Shrinkflation - Have You Noticed Package Sizes Being Reduced At Stores?

Inflation isn't the only thing we have to worry about, now there's shrinkflation happening at the stores and it might not be that noticeable at first. The other day while shopping at the market I noticed that the water bottle packages went from having 45 bottles to having 40 bottles in a package. 😒

If you don't know what "shrinkflation" is, it's when manufacturers shrink package sizes while not lowering the prices. According to KTLA 5, in the U.S., a small box of Kleenex now has 60 tissues instead of 65 and Chobai Flips yogurts are now 4.5oz.. instead of 5.3oz. Shrinkflation isn't only happening in the U.S either.

In the U.K, Nestle slimmed down their Nescafe Azera Americano coffee tins from 100 grams to 90 grams and in India, Vim dish soap bars shrank from 155 grams to 135 grams. The reason behind "shrinkflation" is that manufacturers know customers will notice price increases instead of small details such as number of products in a package or size of items. "Shrinkflation" occurs usually when there is high inflation and companies are trying to adjust with the rising costs of overall production. Click here for more information.
