A child tax credit for low-income families is being proposed by California state lawmakers since there is one expiring at the federal level.
The child tax credit will be given to families that earn $30,000 or less per year and would be a one-time payment of $2,000 per child. The bill was announced Monday morning and would be using California's budget surplus as well as increase the minimum California Earned Income Tax Credit from $1 to $255. The bill will be heard by the Assembly appropriations committee on Thursday.
