California lawmakers approved 1st state-funded guaranteed income program on Thursday, July 15th 2021. The program allows for $35 million in monthly cash payments to people who qualify such as pregnant people, and young adults who have left foster care recently AND there will be no restrictions on how the money can be spent. This $35 million plan will be funded by California taxpayers. Senate Republican Leader Scott Will stated:
"If you look at the stats for our foster youth, they are devastating. We should be doing all that we can to lift these young people up"
The monthly payments qualifying individuals will receive will range from $500-$1,000. In Los Angeles qualify individuals could receive up to $2,000 monthly! For more details click here!
