Girls Today Women Tomorrow empowers girls to create their own opportunities for life success through contributing to their community as young leaders guided by mentors dedicated to expanding their horizons.
Four women founded GTWT in 1996 as a small after school club for girls in hopes that it would address the lack of gender-specific programming for females in East Los Angeles, where teenage pregnancy and high school dropout rates are unacceptably high.
These dedicated women knew that these girls just needed some guidance from mentors to reach their goals. As the number of youth participating in the program grew it became a formal project of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. The GTWT Community Empowerment Center located in the heart of Boyle Heights. The organization continues to grow, graduating a new class of alumni each year, and is currently fundraising to complete the renovation of the Community Empowerment Center.
