WHO: This week's newest Next Up artist is Sigrid!
WHY: Norwegian newcomer Sigrid has been declared as the new Lorde. Signed to Island Records, her new single "Don't Kill My Vibe" has attracted the likes of many strong and independent women. The 20-year-old's song writing capabilities are definitely showcased throughout the track with verses like "You think you’re so important to me, don’t you?" and "Try to hold me down, I know the answer. I can't shake it off and you feel threatened by me." Sigrid also impressively lays down some raspy vocals all over the hit single, making the track even more enticing and catchy.
Sigrid has had local success, making her national radio debut in Norway with only her second-ever song. She now splits her time between her home in Norway and London and is more ready than ever for international attention. The young singer-songwriter says that her single "Don't Kill My Vibe" can have a kind of universal meaning. She says, "It may be a message to your cat, telling her that she's not the master of the universe. Or maybe it's just a really long DM saying you're SO done with someone."
FUN FACT: Sigrid says she draws inspiration from not only big artists like Adele and Coldplay, but also from UK and Norwegian trap/grime genres.
