You May Want To Rethink Using Those Essential Oils...

A lot of us are big fans of essential oils, but if you've been using them directly on your skin... you may want to consider not doing so.

The Mayo Clinic reports that, "when [essential] oils are applied to the skin, side effects may include allergic reactions, skin irritation, and sun sensitivity."

Definitely something to consider as we get ready for the summer months!

Further: Some oils are considered safe if inhaled, and yet may be irritating if applied to the skin in concentrations as low as three to five percent... a University of Minnesota report advises. And several of the citrus oils can cause phototoxicity (severe burns or skin cancer) if there is exposure to natural sunlight or sunbed radiation following skin applications.

Ummm yeah, scary stuff.

To best avoid any harm done from the harsh oils? Doctors suggest only inhaling the scent of the oils for the benefits and to never use the oils with children under age 6.

Good. To. Know.
