Before I even get into what's been going on for the accountants who handled the Oscars ballots this year... let's remember that they are just people! You and I make mistakes, so do they. Their mistake was just WILDLY public.
After the mix up of Best Picture being announced as La La Land when it was really Moonlight, a lot of people were saying, 'someone is getting fired today.'
Actually, that's not the full story!
Rather, after taking responsibility for the mix up, PwC has made it clear that the two accountants would keep their jobs... but they won't be working with the Oscars again.
A spokesperson for PwC said: "I can confirm they have been taken off the Academy Awards but they will still remain partners at the firm."
And I'd like to point out how reasonable that is. You make a big mistake and you unfortunately don't get to handle the big events, but that doesn't make you incapable of doing your day to day job at all.
As for what their lives have looked like since the awards? It's a bit scary!
The accounting firm has said both are under their employer's protection and "aren't going anywhere" (great news) but did admit that each of them have to have security guards (bad, bad news) after their information and photos of their homes were shared online.
Look guys. They messed up. But, you know, luckily they did not hurt anyone physically (though they may have hurt more feelings) and they've taken responsibility for what happened.
Now let's allow them to go on and live their lives as accountants! And definitely don't show up to their homes, please.
