On Friday, October 21, 2022, the Roosevelt High School Rough Riders will host cross-town rival Garfield High School Bulldogs for the 87th annual meeting of the gridiron clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This yearβs game will feature a halftime performance by global music supergoup, Black Eyed Peas. Students, administrators, Coliseum officials and Black Eyed Peas bandmates will come together to preview the big game, which is the homecoming event for both Eastside schools.
The East LA Classic is a celebration of community, tradition and is a source of pride for many families from Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. It provides a premier venue to showcase studentβs athletic ability and scholarship. Many months of collaboration between the students and staff from both schools go into making this a canβt miss showcase of East LA civic pride. The Coliseum hosted two high school football games last year and has a long-standing history of hosting and supporting high school football throughout its iconic legacy.
President of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission George Pla joined forces with LAUSD to bring the yearly anticipated game to the historic venue as one in a series of exceptional events that will take place this year as part of the LA Coliseumβs βColiseum Foreverβ celebration to honor its 100th anniversary.
