Homeless Camps to be Banned From Being Near Schools and Daycares in LA

A little while back a proposal was drafted suggesting that the city ban homeless camps from being with 500 feet of schools and daycares. As of this week, the LA City Council is backing the proposal and is moving on to the next step in the process of making it happen.

According to KTLA, the argument is that kids needs to have a safe and clean passage to school. It can be scary to see people naked, with mental illnesses and such approaching them as they are heading to a place that is meant to be a safe space.

“I’ve seen elementary schools with conditions that none of us as parents would find acceptable for our children,”  Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Alberto M. Carvalho stated, according to KTLA. “Individuals with mental illness, some of them absolutely unclothed, shouting profanities to the listening ear of children. The trauma, the long term, short term repercussions impact on the psychological cognitive development of children that those conditions present, should be unacceptable to any one of us.”
