IHeart SoCal: The Boys and Girls Club

This week on IHeart SoCal Lisa Foxx spoke with Kurtis Sundbloom from the West San Gabriel Valley chapter. One of the oldest chapters in Los Angeles. It has been around since the 70s! The Boys and Girls club has a huge impact on children who attend the program. Kurtis likes to say that he "works for the kids". Those employees are there to serve the children and help them become the best versions of themselves.

The Boys and Girls club is most importantly a safe space for kids. A routine for kids. A place to play and relax! It's more than just an after school program! Although they do have amazing after school programs. Like music! And arts? Even sailing! So how do these kids find the closest Boys and Girls club to them! Well they can google boys and girls club. They can also reach out to their school's administrators and have them connect to the Boys and Girls club!

A new program that the Boys and Girls club is introducing is the "Teen Post" program which teaches teens about business and entrepreneurship. Which is a very important skill to learn nowadays! The kids run their own storefront! That you can buy from! Teen Post is on the corner of Cesar Chavez and Moss! You can buy jewelry, clothing and more!

They have another program called the Kindness Program. This focuses on being kind, taking care of others, taking care of yourself. They are even hosting a "Kindness Fair" which is open to the public! Check it out on April 30th!

Any kids from 6 to 17 can join the Boys and Girls club! If you are interesting in signing up or finding more information on their programs and events (like the Kindness Fair) Check out more info here: https://www.wsgvbgc.org/
