UC, CSU Schools to Require COVID-19 Vaccines for Student and Staff Return

Both the University of California and California State University education systems have announced that they will require all students and staff returning to on-campus classes and activities to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The university systems added that this requirement will not take effect until one or more of the available COVID-19 vaccines receives full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. All current and available vaccines are being administered under emergency-use authorizations from the FDA.

Both school systems will implement the requirement either for the fall semester or when full approval happens.

CSU and UC officials said the planned requirement will be discussed with faculty and student representatives, along with labor groups. But they opted to announce the planned requirement Thursday so all members of the campus community can start arranging to get vaccinated before the fall term begins.
