Iconic Boyle Heights Sears Is Closing Its Doors Permanently

The iconic Sears building. a staple of the Boyle Heights community, is reportedly permanently closing its doors this month.

The nearly century-old landmark retail store, located over the neighborhood of Soto Street and Olympic Boulevard since 1927, has struggled to stay in business the last few years.

The company has closed many stores across the nation, after filing for bankruptcy in 2018. It is unclear when exactly the iconic Boyle Heights location will close its doors for the last time.

In 2006, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
