North Hollywood welcomes the first of a series of villages made up of "tiny homes", hoping to combat homelessness in the Los Angeles.
Doors officially opened Monday, February 2, welcoming its first people who were coming in from experiencing homelessness. The Tiny Homes village is located on Chandler Boulevard in a half-acre plot at the north end of North Hollywood Recreation Center.
The location reportedly has room for up to 75 people. According to ABC7, there are 40 temporary homes available, each with two beds, heat and air-conditioning, and a desk within a 64-square-feet space. Amazing, right?
ABC7 adds that requirements to live there are that you must be experiencing homelessness, must be 18 years and older, and living within a 3-mile radius.
North Hollywood is also opening another site at Alexandria Park, which could house around 200 people in 103 tiny homes, by April 2021.
ABC7 reports that these tiny homes are developed and managed by Hope of the Valley, which also offers meals, housing services, job training placement services, among other things.
