The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has announced it will not consider school reopening waivers following new state guidance.
California's new guidelines says counties with COVID-19 case rates at or above 200 cases per every 100,000 residents will not be approved for waivers for in-person instruction. This applies to all Los Angeles students 6th grade or below.
According to CBS News, Los Angeles' current case rate is 355 cases per 100,000 residents.
While students are not allowed to return to campus, teachers, staff and administrators will reportedly be allowed to return to school buildings provided the campuses adhere to existing safety protocols.
The LA County Department of Public Health says it would reevaluate the decision if and when the county's case rate falls to levels recommended by the state of California.
