Javier Bardem In Talks To Join 'The Little Mermaid' As King Triton

Variety is reporting that Spanish actor, Javier Bardem, is in talks to play Ariel's father, King Triton, in the live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid."

To this day, the world has learned that Halle Bailey will portray the Ariel, Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula and singer Harry Styles is also in early talks to play Prince Eric.

Bardem most recently starred in “Everybody Knows” opposite Penelope Cruz and can be seen next in Legendary’s new retelling of “Dune,” which also stars Timothee Chalamet and Josh Brolin.

Bardem is a three-time Oscar nominee who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in No Country for Old Men. He's worked with Disney before, having starred as Captain Salazar in Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge. He's also known for portraying the villain, Silva, in the James Bond movie Skyfall.

So Javier Bardem is no stranger to Disney! Variety also reports that the upcoming film will incorporate original songs from the 1989 animated classic, as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken with lyrics by “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda -- who is also producing the film.

Again, these are early reports and neitherVariety nor iHeartMedia has confirmed that this is happening.
