Starbucks has officially launched its revamped loyalty program, completely changing the way you can redeem your hard-earned points. The updated rewards system adds customization options and replaces a lateral rewards structure with a tiered one.
In an email to Starbucks rewards members, the coffee giant notified loyal customers of the changes: “We're resetting your star balance with this change. Because tomorrow, every new star you earn will add up to rewards, big and small — that means more of your favorites free.”
This announcement caused a number of previously “green” customers to panic when they saw their previously earned stars disappear overnight. But don't worry, earning points will no be easier than ever.
Here are the new Starbucks redemption options:
-25 stars: An espresso shot, dairy substitute or additional flavor
-50 stars: Brewed hot coffee, hot tea or bakery item
-150 stars: Handcrafted drink, hot breakfast or parfait
-200 stars: Lunch sandwich, protein box or salad
-400 stars: Select merchandise or at-home coffee
Starbucks debit and credit card holders will also be able to accrue points with no expiration date. The Starbucks rewards program has more than 16 million active members and accounts for about 40% of all transactions.
