'The Simpsons' Has Been Renewed for Seasons 31 and 32

FOX has announced that The Simpsons has been renewed for seasons 31 and 32, making it the longest-running primetime show in television history.

The iconic and historic animated comedy is currently airing its 30th season Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on its home network.

The show premiered in 1989 and since has won 33 Emmy Awards!

According to The Los Angeles Times, th e renewal comes as the FOX broadcasting network plots its post-Disney merger future. “

The Simpsons” is one of the properties that will not move to Disney as part of the deal, which is expected to close in the coming months. Many questions still surround the programming strategy of “New Fox."

The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening told The Los Angeles Times , " There's no end in sight. ... I still love doing it. I still like that all these people whom I care about are still employed. ... And there are still stories I want to tell. "

The show also e xpanded onto the big screen in 2012 with “The Simpsons Movie.”
