Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was one of Sony's most successful movies EVER, so it's only fitting that they continue with the storyline! The sequel is set to be released in December 2019.
The 2017 reboot of the classic hit Jumanji starred Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas, and it made more than $956 million at the worldwide box office.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman spoke at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday, April 23 and confirmed plans for a sequel. He was not able to reveal much, but he mentioned that we can expect to see at least one returning star in the sequel: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
“I’d bet on seeing Dwayne Johnson in theaters again in December 2019. Don’t rush to give all those screens to Star Wars. Come on, fair’s fair," said Rothman.
We are very interested to see what could happen in the sequel. Will it be about life after escaping Jumanji? Will the players get sucked back into the game somehow? We'll have to wait and see!
In the 2017 movie directed by Jake Kasdan, a group of four high schoolers were in detention where they found an old video game console. The game was called Jumanji, and when they chose the avatars that they were going to play as, they truly became those characters.
They were sucked into the game and had to make it through each level in order to get back to normal life. They went through a few levels before meeting Jefferson "Seaplane" McDonough, played by Nick Jonas. He ended up being the helping hand that they needed, and he assisted the teenagers in their return to safety. However, that doesn't mean that they did it easily — they had plenty of obstacles to face along the way.
The film was action-packed and hilarious, featuring Jack Black as a teenage girl and Kevin Hart as someone whose main weakness was cake.

The movie put a modern spin on the 1995 film directed by Joe Johnston, which threw the players into a board game rather than a video game.
Can December 2019 come any faster? We are expecting big things from the sequel and hope that the whole cast returns for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2!
