Georgia Second-Grader Tests Positive For COVID-19 After First Day Of School

A second-grader from Georgia tested positive for COVID-19 just one day after students returned to school. The student did not show symptoms while in class, but after going home, they started feeling sick, and their parents took them to get tested for the coronavirus.

Classes at Sixes Elementary School in Canton resumed on Monday (August 3), and according to WXIAstudents are not required to wear masks and did not appear to be social distancing in the classroom.

The teacher and the other 20 students in the class have been asked to self-quarantine for two weeks. Officials said the classroom has been closed and will be deep-cleaned before anybody is allowed inside.

The teacher will continue to teach classes online for the students, who will spend the next two weeks learning from home.
