Kanye West released his gospel album, Jesus Is King, over the weekend and I have to say, I've never listened to a Kayne album top to bottom, but I did with this one and I had CHILLS. He did one of his "Sunday Services" at The Forum to celebrate with his choir and even Kenny G was in the building! Kenny is on his song, "Use This Gospel."
But, Kanye sat down with Zane Lowe for almost a two hour interview and said the following, "This is gonna be radical what I'm about to say...there were times when I was asking people to not have premarital sex while they were working on the album and asking people to fast during the album."
This got a lot of scuttle. But, honestly I think it's really admirable. Kanye wanted to make a pure Gospel album and that's something we do as a church, we fast together and pray together. It really brings you clarity and there's something so special about fasting together and praying together.
The fact Kanye wanted to make this a true Gospel album and keep it true to that...I am impressed! I found myself combing through the lyrics of this album and I think it's such a beautiful testimony of faith in Kanye's life. I was completely blown away by the album!
