Sam Smith recently posted a picture on his Instagram to share the body trauma he's experienced. He says he's now ready "to fight the f back" and reclaim his body, essentially accepting it for what it is!
The picture Sam posted is him shirtless on a beach with a lengthly, meaningful caption. Here's a bit of it...
"Some may take this as narcissistic and showing off but if you knew how much courage it took to do this and the body trauma I have experienced as a kid you wouldn't think those things."
I had to bring light to this story because I know other people have struggle with body issues and maybe you're trying to overcome them. So, can you think of a major moment you had where you fully accepted your body and your build?
For me it was when I was doing an accountability program with Teddi Mellencamp. I had lost around 16 pounds, but I kept obsessing over this pooch on my stomach! It wasn't going away. One day I just told myself, I am happy, I am living a very healthy lifestyle and my body isn't perfect and I do not care. It was this lightbulb moment that went off in my head where everything changed.
It wasn't about how I was looking, but rather how I was FEELING. That to me was the most important when I came to accepting my body. So, to Sam Smith - thank you for sharing your story. It inspired me to share mine and I hope it inspires others!
