Quick recap: In 2019, Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, sued Gwyneth Paltrow for $3.1 million, later reduced to $300,000, over an incident in which he claims she “skied out of control” and crashed into him, causing a “permanent traumatic brain injury”, “four broken ribs,” and “emotional distress”.
The crash took place in February 2016 on a beginner’s run at the notoriously bougie Deer Valley ski resort in Park City, Utah. Paltrow has countersued for $1 plus legal fees, claiming that he actually hit her in the back. Gwyneth’s team says this whole thing is this dude’s attempt to exploit her celebrity and wealth.
And some of the moments have been bizarre…like Sanderson’s lawyer, Kristin VanOrman, who seems absolutely starstruck in Gwyneth’s presence: saying, “I’m so jealous” of her 5’10” height and later, an extended line of questioning about how well Gwyneth knows Taylor Swift since Taylor Swift also countersued for $1 in a trial.
Yesterday, Apple and Moses, Gwyneth’s kids had their sworn statements entered into the record. They were not there, but they remembered her mom being annoyed that some guy ran into her…
It's quickly become such a bizarre trial that I kinda don’t want to end!
