Cal State Long Beach Graduates Are Bummed About Their Graduation This Year!

Graduating from college is a HUGE accomplishment! I still remember the feeling of hearing my name called in front of all my friends and family and walking across the stage to receive the diploma that I worked so hard for!

Well that’s not going to happen (again) for graduates at Cal State Long Beach…

For the third consecutive year, they won’t walk the stage or have their names read aloud during the university’s 2023 commencement ceremonies at Angel Stadium — a pandemic-era change that appears to be permanent.

The school will just display students’ names on a jumbotron while they remain seated.

And apparently this has nothing to do with trying not to spread Covid. The school likes the time-saving aspect of it.

The university will once again offer “recognition stages” in the Angel Stadium parking lot.

Graduates will be able to scan a QR code to display a photo and their name as they walk those smaller stages.

Students are bummed! They want the full experience of a REAL graduation! Not some small pre-school set up stage outside in the parking lot!
