Well, Peacocks Are Taking Over Pasadena

If you've been driving around Pasadena lately and seen a LOT more peacocks than usual... you're not the only one. In fact, the peacock influx in the area has become a legitimate issue!

Los Angeles County officials are asking residents to refrain from feeding the HUNDREDS of peacocks across many cities, including Pasadena where the peacocks are "polarizing" communities.

Peacocks are native to South Asia and Central Africa and are a popular zoo attraction, but they’re also frequently kept as pets in the US — particularly in LA. In many cities there have been occasional peacocks, but since the pandemic, the numbers have grown!

The pandemic prompted a population boom among peacocks, as new or inexperienced owners have failed to prevent their tenacious peacocks from seeking peahens, their female counterparts. And it's gotten to the point where there are estimated to be hundreds of peacocks in parts of LA - specifically Pasadena.

While you might not realize why this is an issue - turns out, it is! Residents are complaining that they wake them up at dawn and that the birds sounds like babies being tortured through a large microphone. So yeah, not IDEAL.

I guess during breeding season, the males call most of the night and all day. So there really isn't a break from this awful sound.

Now, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is setting up a vote to ban feeding them... If the public ordinance should come to pass, those caught intentionally feeding the birds will be fined $1,000 or sentenced to six months in jail.

Imagine going to jail and having to tell people it is because of feeding a peacock... that would definitely persuade me not to feed them!!

If you live in Pasadena, or any other area that is having an issue with the influx of peacocks, leave me a Yap below about how bad the disruption is!!
