Long Beach City officials announced this week that all K-12 and community college students will soon be provided with free bus rides.
According to KTLA, the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors voted to adopt a system called the "LBT GoPass," an initiative aimed at providing bus transportation to students.
LBT GoPass has already been approved but has not been implemented yet by the Long Beach Unified School District nor the city's community college. According to KTLA, implementation takes from 60 to 90 days.
The program will be open to students from participating schools only, and students must get a Long Beach Transit GoPass TAP card to ride the system. For students who currently use the city's current TAP cards and transportation system, officials say you should continue to do so until the program is implemented.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia says that the city is working to expand this program to Cal State University Long Beach students.
