Starbucks has announced it plans to reopen 85 percent of its United States stores by the end of this week. Their re-opening tactic? An emphasis on mobile ordering, contactless pickup and cashless payments!
This move comes as more cities and states across the nation are easing lockdown restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a letter to customers, Chief Executive Kevin Johnson announced that their popular mobile app now has updated options, including voice ordering and curbside pickup! Johnson's letter also says the company will shift to a "more cashless experience" since the handling of cash can create concerns about continued spread.
According to The Washington Post, Starbucks temporarily shut down about half of its 8,000 company-owned U.S. stores in late March. As of right now, Starbucks is among the first national chains to announce reopening plans.
