Selena’s ‘Ven Conmigo’ Is Being Archived in the Library of Congress

Selena’s sophomore release Ven Conmigo is among among 25 recordings being inducted to the National Recording Registry.

The induction comes days ahead of the 25th anniversary of her tragic death. The National Recording Registry announced earlier this week that herVen Conmigo album was selected this year to be archived in the Library of Congress.

For those of you unfamiliar with this annual process, every year the National Recording Registry announces 25 pieces of music (including albums, songs and music sheets) that are chosen to be archived in the Library of Congress. In order to be considered, the pieces of music must be at least 10 years old and deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” in U.S. culture. Who better than Selena Quintanilla?!

Ven Conmigo is Selena's second major release -- released in 1990. The Queen of Tejano's sophomore album joins the likes of Dr. Dre, Tina Turner and Village People. Dr. Dre’s classic debut rap album “The Chronic", the worldwide disco hit “Y.M.C.A.” by the Village People, Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer" and Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”are some of the titles tapped for preservation this year alongside Selena.

The National Recording Registry called this year’s music selections the “Ultimate ‘Stay at Home’ Playlist" in order to maintain and respect the need for people to self-quarantine and practice social distancing amid the Coronavirus (or COVID-19) pandemic.

Congratulations Selena Quintanilla and all other artists inducted into the National Recording Registry.
