A Newly Restored Version of 'Selena' Is Returning to the Big Screen

The movie that stole our hearts 22 years ago is headed back to the big screen, and no it is not a reboot/remake.

Selena - the famous biopic of the Tejano Queen's life is receiving the restoration treatment it deserves. The movie was originally released 22 years ago (1997) and was directed by Gregory Nava. So get ready for the tears, the laughter, the dancing AND of course...the pizza.

This unforgettable film will be screened this weekend at the Brooklyn Academy of Music - also known as BAM. This is a new digital print of the original theatrical release. It is unclear whether this new digitally restored Selena will come with any additional footage, or extras. (fingers crossed it does)

Important to note...Selena has not had a Blu-ray release. Selena is an iconic film. In the 90s it was unheard of that a film that starred and was directed by Latinos would kill it at the box office. It spent 15 weeks at the box office during the year it was released. Oh, and who can forgot...JLo's breakout role that really put Jenny from the Block on the map!

This movie not only inspired an entire generation, it continues to do so. Selena's legacy continues to shine with musical tributes, merch and even festivals in her name!

Your chance to see the newly restored film is this weekend, but it is in New York. Catch Selena screening at BAM on October 4 – 10, 2019.
