Walt Disney Animation Studios' legendary 1989 film - The Little Mermaid - is next in line to get the live-action treatment. Soon, Ariel and crew will be part of our world...literally.
Late last week, the world learned that actress Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play the villainous sea witch Ursula in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The original animated Ursula was voiced by Pat Carroll in the original film.
While Variety's reporting did not confirm that the deal is final, it seems the internet already has opinions on who should play the iconic villain.
So it seems Melissa McCarthy may have some competition for the role....and in front of the line is the new music sensation, Lizzo. The singer and rapper took to social media to let everybody know that she’s perfect for the live-action Ursula back in October, and honestly she is PERFECT for this role.
Take a look:
Lizzo learned of the possible Melissa McCarthy casting through a Variety tweet, and she is showing some serious disappointment that she wasn't considered for the role. Lizzo is not messing around either; she got in on it, posting a sad-eyed emoji in reaction to the news.
The live-action edition of the 1989 film will be directed by Rob Marshall. No start date has been released for production, but it will follow this year's updated versions of Aladdin and The Lion King from Disney.
Other casting reporting from forThe Little Mermaid include Awkwafina, who would play the seagull Scuttle, andRoom starJacob Tremblay who is talks to play Flounder.
