Researchers at Chapman University have released the top 10 things that Americans fear the most and some of the results may shock you.
You'd expect killer clowns, Michael Myers, demons and spiders to be on the list, but none of those made the list.
Titled Survey of American Fears, this annual survey finds the real "cucuy" (please laugh) for Americans. This is the fourth year for the survey and at the top of the list is corrupt government officials.
There were a total of 94 categories in this survey and here are your official top 10.
Top 10 Fears of 2018:
- Corruption of government officials
- Pollution of oceans, rivers and lakes
- Pollution of drinking water
- Not having enough money for the future
- People I love becoming seriously ill
- People I love dying
- Air pollution
- Extinction of plant and animal species
- Global warming and climate change
- High medical bills
According to NPR, this is the first year that each of the top 10 fears are held by more than half of the population, indicating that overall fear is on the rise.
You might even notice that 5 out of the 10 "top fears' involve the feeling that the planet is falling apart (global warming).
How do you guys feel about the findings from this survey? Do your fears match these? What I found most interesting is that Americans have grown less afraid of terrorist attacks - which was the number two fear in 2016. Since, people are more afraid we are taking our planet to the dumps.
I'd love to hear back from you guys! Here is the link to the survey if you'd like to read more details about it - Survey of American Fears.
