The Weeknd released his new 6-song EP titled My Dear Melancholy, and fans are already speculating that he is singing about his relationship with Selena Gomez.
The Grammy winner dropped his new tunes late Thursday night and fans quickly went to Twitter to decode the lyrics of his new tracks.
The title of the EP says it all! The tracks are about failed relationships with melancholy titles and lyrics. Here is the tracklist:
- Call Out my Name
- Try Me
- Wasted Times
- I Was Never There (feat. Gesaffelstein)
- Hurt You (feat. Gesaffelstein)
- Privilege
“Call Out My Name” seems to be the one song fans think is about Selena Gomez. The lyrics: “I said I didn’t feel nothing baby, but I lied/I almost cut a piece of myself for your life,” has people thinking The Weeknd considered giving his ex-girlfriend a kidney when she needed a transplant last year.
The Weeknd’s and Selena Gomez split in October of 2017, after dating for 10 months.
Fans also think he's singing about Bella Hadid on the track "Wasted Times." The lyrics go: "You were an equestrian, so ride it like a champion." For those of you who didn't know, the supermodel used to ride competitively. The Starboy singer goes on to sing: "Wasted times I spent with someone else. She wasn't even half of you."
Fan speculation is nothing new. Taylor Swift's lyrics are often dissected for hidden messages about ex-boyfriends., and recently, Camila Cabello's track "Real Friends" was speculated to be about her ex-bandmates Fifth Harmony.
Here is what fans said on Twitter:
