Here’s What’s Closing At Downtown Disney to Make Way For A New Hotel

There are so many updates coming to The Disneyland Resort over the next few years. Pixar Pier, Star Wars Land and Marvel Land are just a few of the major updates coming to Anaheim.

Well last year, Disneyland announced that it would be closing several restaurants and the theaters in Downtown Disney to build a new luxury hotel in between the existing Disneyland Hotel and the Downtown Disney monorail station. The new hotel is scheduled to open sometime in 2021.

According to Disney Park's website, the new hotel will consist of  700 stunning rooms and will feature a sophisticated design and be a game-changer for Anaheim. It will create a dynamic dining, entertainment and hotel experience for resort visitors and local residents.

The Disneyland Resort has confirmed the final operating date for the Downtown Disney locations will be June 30th, 2018.

Here’s what is being closing and being demolished:

  • AMC 12 Theatres
  • Rainforest Cafe
  • ESPN Zone
  • Earl of Sandwich
  • Alamo Rent-a-Car
  • Starbucks (only the west side location)
  • Two Disney businesses – Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney Travel – will continue to operate in other resort locations.

Disneyland already has begun site work on a second parking structure, on the site of the old Pinocchio lot next to Mickey and Friends, as part of the ongoing transformation of the resort. In addition to the new hotel, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens in Disneyland next year and a new Marvel land opens on the site of the soon-to-closed It's a Bug's Land in Disney California Adventure in 2020.

In addition to the 700-room hotel, Downtown Disney will also be getting its first ever bewery as well as a bowling alley. Construction is expected to start in the summer and the hotel will open sometime in 2021.

Wow so many changes coming to They Disney Resort! You better go experience everything that is closing one last time before they're gone for good!

I can't wait to experience all these changes. I think I'm most excited about The Pixar Pier!
