Amazon is taking the next step in their delivery service by offering a new service that would allow deliveries to be dropped off inside your home. Amazon-key, is a service offered to Prime members. With amazon key you would be able to allow access to an Amazon Logistics delivery person places a package inside the front door so that they're not in danger of being stolen by being left at your front door. You can also grant access to people you trust like a dog walker, cleaning service or your friends and family.
If you decide to give it a try, Amazon sells a Key In-Home Kit for $249.99 which Amazon professionals can install for free.
Here's how it works: The morning your package is due to arrive, you will receive an alert on the Amazon key app within a 4 hour window of when the package is due to arrive. You are also notified right before the driver is about to be at your home. The driver will knock first before attempting to open your door. When the door is open be the driver, the camera in your home will turn on and record the whole drop off and you can watch Live or once the delivery is completed. Once your door is locked back up, you'll get another notification asking if you'd like to see video. Sounds pretty secure to me!! and don't worry Prime members there is no extra charge for the service. Prime members still get free shipping!!
One thing that would be of concern to me being a pet owner, is them getting out when the door is open. Amazon suggest that if you DO have pets, to block them from being able to get to the front door so there's no danger of them running out and ensure proper in-home delivery.
I've had packages stolen from my front door before which is just awful, so this could be a great way to combat that. What do you think, is this something you'd be willing to try?
