There is a huge sinkhole on a part of Iverson Road, just south of the 118 Freeway, in Chatsworth. The heavy rain that we have been getting in Los Angeles has been causing major damage, and is the sole cause of this growing sinkhole.
According to KTLA, the sinkhole is about 40 feet deep. Thankfully, no one was badly hurt. There are two people that were sent to the hospital after their Nissan got swallowed by the sinkhole. A pickup truck fell in as well. The LA fire department had to come and rescue them.
The rain isn't supposed to let up anytime soon. More is supposed to be hitting the LA area this weekend. There is fear that it could worsen the sinkhole.
“It’s deeper, it’s going to keep eroding away,” John Lee, Councilmember for District 12, said. “So, what we need to do, we’re expecting more rain, we have to figure out a way to divert the water. It’s still very unstable, so we need to create a bit of a slope in the front end to be able to bring the cars out.”
Stay safe this weekend!
