History was made here in California today. Patricia Guerrero just became the first latina to be sworn into the California Supreme Court. According to Patch, Guerrero was confirmed by a 3-0 vote and will effective immediately take the place of Associate Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar.
This is a huge step in history. For Guerrero not only to be a woman but a woman of color just shows the progress we are making in this country when it comes to diversity and inclusion. Guerrero is currently on the state's 4th District Court of Appeal, but will soon take her spot in one of the highest levels of office.
She says that she is humbled by this opportunity stating, "As I've tried to express, this is not just about me, or really even just about my parents, but it's about so many others just like us," Guerrero said according to Patch. "This is a story of the American Dream, the belief that with hard work, perseverance and opportunities, anything is possible. And for that I am thankful."
