Remember the days when you would go to Blockbuster Video with your family to see what movies you want to rent for movie night? Those were the good 'ol days....Bucket Listers and New Gold Empire have joined forces to bring Los Angeles a Blockbuster Speakeasy! The speakeasy opens up on Saturday, November 19th and it "recreates every memory of choosing a movie pre-streaming, while also mixing in a full bar that serves up delicious cocktails and mock-tails."
The entire environment is completely inspired by the decor of the beloved video chain, channeling the memories of days gone by when the neon glow of Blockbuster’s aisles were the highlight of any Friday night. No late fees here though.
As you enter the Blockbuster speakeasy, you are met with your own classic membership card and you are then free to roam the genre aisles that are sectioned off by categories such as different cocktails, spirits and beer. Instead of grabbing a VHS, guests will get to choose from the "themed beverages inspired by only the best 90's and 2000's movie releases," If you need help making a selection, read the "synopsis," aka recipe, on the back before you head to the checkout counter where a Blockbuster bartender awaits. Some of the nostalgic drinks include Gusher and Yoo Hoo based cocktails, Zima, Vodka & Tab, Crystal Clear Pepsi, Orbitz and more.
If you want to upgrade your Blockbuster experience, you can also check out the nostalgic food menu that includes Grown up Lunchable, Blockbuster Burger, Please Rewind Truffle Fries, New Release Flatbreads & Dips, Late Fee Risotto Parmesan Cheese Balls and more. What's a trip to Blockbuster without some sweets? Make sure to enjoy their dessert selection, which include Dunkaroo Ice Cream sundae, Movie Style Popcorn, Toast Your Own Smores, and the Friday Night Rice Krispie Fudge Brownie. I'm making sure I go to this Blockbuster Speakeasy hungry because I need to try all of this!
The Blockbuster Speakeasy is located on 7174 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles and membership cards start at $45/person and includes 2 throwback cocktails. There is also a Blockbuster brunch available on Saturdays and Sundays starting December 10th for $55/person and it will include 1 entrée with 1 throwback cocktail along with some music, surprises and more!
