Here's Why There's A Dolphin Shaped Installation At Hermosa Beach

If you live around Hermosa Beach or have stopped by you've probably noticed 2 HUGE DOLPHINS made out recyclables.

Well The Container Recycling Institute (CRI) created this dolphin art installation at Hermosa Beach Pier in order to bring awareness to the growing amount of litter that reaches our oceans.

According to CRI the average American uses 839 containers a year.

The installation that they created is made up of 839 containers! 572 beverage containers make up the larger dolphin which represents the amount of containers that average Americans waste. The other 263 containers make up the smaller dolphin which represents the amount of containers that ACTUALLY get recycled.

Luckily Californians are better at recycling than other states, maybe in part due to the fact that we have the California Redemption Value, or CRV, as a public incentive.
