The buzz about Kendrick Lamar being in attendance was so anticipated that the Pulitzer's administrator didn't even give Kendrick a chance to get in the building before welcoming him to the event.
This award makes him the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the prize since the award was started to be given for music in 1943.
