According to several reports, on Monday night, a passenger boarded United Flight 1284 from Houston to New York with a small dog inside a TSA-compliant carrier. What occurred next is super disturbing and honestly unbelievable.
A flight attendant asked the passenger to place her dog in an overhead bin for the nearly four hour flight. As a result the dog tragically lost it's life...
United has released a statement to NBC 5 saying the incident was a "tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin."
The company appears to assume full responsibility (as they should) for the terrible incident.
"We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them," the airline told NBC 5. "We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again."
This seriously makes my blood boil! I'm a dog owner myself and I can't even begin to imagine what this family experienced.
Hopefully it is made VERY clear that this should never happen ever again on ANY airline.
