Usually people only have to worry about potential traffic on the freeway, but drivers on the 55 freeway got an eye full of something else: A PLANE!!
Veteran pilot, Isarel Slod was forced to land his Beechcraft Bonanza airplane after the plane's single engine failed.
Slod was headed back from a regular trip he makes from San Diego to Orange County when he realized he had a problem.
“The engine just quit on us about two miles off the shore,” Slod recounted, forcing to think under pressure. He knew that his plane was losing altitude and he had to find somewhere to land it soon. After passing endless blocks of stores and homes, Slod "went with his gut" and landed on the only clear area he could find, which was the 55 freeway near Costa Mesa.
Luckily, everything went smoothly and Slod was able to safely land the plane without injuring the plane, himself, or any oncoming traffic.
