Nicki Minaj and Drake gave fans in Toronto a real treat after they reunited on stage for the first time in years.
On Tuesday night, April 30, the "FTCU" rapper made a stop at the Scotiabank Arena in Drizzy's hometown in Canada for the latest stop on her "Pink Friday 2 World Tour." Midway through the show, her longtime friend and collaborator made a surprise appearance to perform their song "Needle" for the first time together live. Afterward, Drake made himself comfortable on stage and performed his other popular hit "Rich Baby Daddy." Later on, Minaj gave the 37-year-old artist his flowers.
“Make some noise for the king, Toronto! Make some noise for this icon, this legend," she said while hugging Drake.
"Needle" appears on Nicki Minaj's latest album Pink Friday 2. The song was originally made during the recording sessions for Drake's previous LP For All The Dogs. During his tour last year, the Grammy award-winning rapper claimed Nicki would appear on his album. Their collaboration didn't make it to the final version of FATD, but Drake gave the greenlight for it to show up on Minaj's project.
"Originally it was for Drake's album," Minaj explained to Kai Cenat last December. "Right when I got it for the first time I was like 'I hope something happens and it ends up being on my album because I like it.' And then what happened was at the end Drake when he had to turn in 'For All The Dogs,' he sent me two songs and anyway, to make a long story short, that same day he also told me 'Hey, I'm not using 'Needles' for the album because it doesn't fit the sonic vibe, do you want it?' and I was like 'F**k yes!!'"
Nicki and Drake's reunion happened just hours after Kendrick Lamar released his anticipated diss track "Euphoria." There was no mention of the track on stage, but Drake couldn't leave without saying something about the situation. Right before he exited the stage, Drake appeared to confirm he's preparing to fire back at KDot.
“You know what time it is, you know what I gotta do," he said as he walked off the stage.
