Starbucks Is Closing 6 Locations In Los Angeles For Safety Reasons

In the next few weeks, Starbucks will be closing six locations in Los Angeles due to a high frequency of "challenging incidents."

According to KTLA 5, Debbie Stroud and Denise Nelson, SVPs of Starbucks U.S operations, sent a letter to employees to inform them that they are focused on "creating a safe, welcoming, and kind third place." The company wants their stores to be a "safe and welcoming public space" and also want their employees to address "disruptive behaviors." The closure of the six stores are due reported complaints and incidents that have caused employees to feel unsafe or unhappy with the working conditions.

To help with this issue, Starbucks will evaluate modifying operations, close bathrooms or stores altogether if that particular store cannot be a safe environment for both customers and employees. Starbucks has confirmed that the stores below will be closing in Los Angeles.

  • 1st and Los Angeles (inside Doubletree hotel)
  • 2nd and San Pedro
  • Hollywood and Vine
  • Hollywood and Western
  • Ocean Front Walk (Santa Monica Pier)
  • Santa Monica and Westmount

Starbucks has also confirmed that the employees of the closing stores will be able to transfer to other locations. These stores are expected to close at the end of the month.
