The stage at a new city park under construction in Pasadena, California, will be named after Van Halen, in honor of the iconic rock band's connection to the city.

The park itself will be named after science fiction writer Octavia Butler. According to KABC, it will be outfitted with open space, a children's playground, public restrooms, a parking plaza and a dog run.

After asking the public for suggestions of names for the new park, city officials agreed to name the part after Butler and the stage after Van Halen.

A plaque honoring Eddie Van Halen was unveiled outside the Pasadena Convention Center last October, commemorating one years since Eddie's death. Van Halen played many shows in that neighborhood in the band's early days.

In January of last year, a stunning Eddie Van Halen mural was painted on the exterior of Guitar Center's Sunset Strip location.

The mural drew praise from Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen, who called it "an incredible honor" to see his father depicted on the building.
